I want to thank NIGAT for organising a great drumming workshop for their October day meeting. I was unsure of what to expect but went along aware of my own needs of self-care.

The workshop started slowly with an introduction to the drum and the sounds it could make before we joined as a group in a single drum beat.
I was eager to make more sounds and rhythms with the drum but sat with the beat and let it surround my body. This sounds so simple, but it allowed me to focus on that one sound and it was deeply moving and enriching.
My single beat together with the beat repeated by the rest of the group resonated around the room and allowed me to become more self-aware of my body, the vibrations radiating through my arms and the vibration resonating around the room and from the floor. It allowed me to have quiet attention to my own needs.

The different creations of sound and rhythm by the group that followed as the workshop progressed allowed me to experiment with different sounds and rhythms which permitted me to tap into my own different feeing’s and inner responses creating space for self- reflection. I needed reminded of the importance of sound in the rhythm of life and how a change of dynamics can make a world of difference.
I found the workshop an enlightening and enriching experience and have come away feeling nourished and grounded.
